19th Avenue, 22nd Avenue, Fillmore Street and Friendly Street Paving Project (Project completed)

Completed: Yes
MTIP: N/A Construction Year: 2015
Jurisdiction: City of Eugene Mode: Road

This project involves repaving five street sections in the Friendly Area Neighbors neighborhood as follows:

  • 19th Avenue from Chambers Street to Fillmore Street.
  • 22nd Avenue from Chambers Street to Fillmore Street.
  • Fillmore Street from 19th Avenue to 24th Avenue
  • 22nd Avenue from Polk Street to Friendly Street.
  • Friendly Street from 24th Avenue to 28th Avenue.

All five of these street sections have moderate to severe pavement deterioration due to age and heavy traffic loading and need to be repaved. Work will also include reconstructing sidewalk access ramps throughout the project in order to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Business Access During Construction? Yes

This project is scheduled for construction in the summer of 2015.

Traffic Impacts:

Drivers should expect lane closures and lane shifts during construction. Pedestrians should expect sidewalk detours during the sidewalk ramp work at the intersections. Bicyclists should expect to merge with motor vehicle traffic depending on available lane widths during construction. With any construction, drivers should expect equipment and workers in the roadway leading to congestion and delays during the work.

Work Schedule:

Prior to the start of street construction, the City’s arborists may be on site trimming trees to prevent overhead limbs from being damaged by construction equipment. Also prior to construction, utility companies (water, electricity, gas) may be on site adjusting their facilities in order to avoid conflicts with the work and prevent damage to their facilities. Once the street work begins, the work hours are typically Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

This project is primarily funded by the street repair bond passed by voters in 2012 and the local gas tax which funds the City’s Pavement Preservation Program.
